About
Well like my title says, I am just a lay guy. I have never written a book, never gone to Bible College, and never been anyone of great importance actually when I come to think about it.
I am not a preacher, nor a teacher - cause those guys get judged twice as hard and scraping through on a single judgment is more than enough for me. Nope, I’m just a lay guy living in Australia with a full time job, a wife with 2 kids and serve in my church. Having said that, I am now being asked to share the odd message or two at my church. But I promise to remain lay at all costs!
I look after the multimedia ministry at our little church plant. Stuff like sermon recording/podcasting, news broadcasts, website and pitch in with looking after the kids.
Love my church. We are planted on purpose in the toughest neighbourhood in Melbourne - Melton. Tell you what, if Jesus was around physically, He would have no trouble meeting the lost and the needy in our part of the world. They abound and we need to meet them where they are at.
That’s why our church can be labeled “missional.” That is, we try to present the Gospel in a way relevant to the people in our culture. We try to steer clear of “religion” and “dogma” and simply try to show the Gospel in our actions and, if necessary, words.
It is a struggle and has many challenges, but isn’t that true in most areas of life? Just ask the Israelites as they wandered around the desert for 40 years before they entered the Promised Land. But the thing I have in common with the Israelites is that we both struggled due to a lack of faith.
Eventually they did enter, and I know I will too. Along with the people in Melton who God knew will accept His Word. Until then, I’m just a lay guy and I’m OK with that. My goal is to abide in Jesus and I know that the Father will then work through me. The ultimate antidote against burnout and irrelevant ministry.
