Heard this song over twenty years ago and am haunted by the melody and the message ever since. I know it’s not modern or hip - but who cares?
Lyrics:
El Shaddai, Elyon no Adonai
(God almighty, God almighty, God in the highest, oh LORD)
Age to Age your still the same
By the power of the Name
El Shaddai, El Shaddai, Erkamka na adonai
(God Almighty, God Almighty, I will love you, oh LORD)
We will Praise and Lift you high
El Shaddai
Through Your Love and through the ram
you saved the son of Abraham
And by the power of your hand
Turned the sea into dry land
to the outcast on her knees
You were the God that really sees
And by your might you set your children free
El Shaddai, El Shaddai, El Elyon na Adonai
Age to Age your still the same
by power of the name
El Shaddai, El Shaddai, Erkamka na Adonai
We will praise and lift you high
El Shaddai
Through the years you made it clear
That the time of Christ was near
Through the people failed to see
What Messiah ought to be
Though your word contained the plan
They just could not understand
Your most awsome work was done
Through the fraility of your son
El Shaddai, El Shaddai, El Elyon na Adonai
Age to Age your still the same
by power of the name
El Shaddai, El Shaddai, Erkamka na Adonai
We will praise and lift you high
El Shaddai

Hey Lay Guy,
As a fellow blogger I wonder if you might want to do a post about my new book coming out with Zondervan. It’s called THE FINE LINE. If you’re interested check out this link where you will find a video, interview, excerpt, etc. Those who highlight the book will be mentioned on the endorsement list and their blog will receive a link as well.

I left two website addresses. So, before I go, in the case that they run together when you see them, I am going to leave them again.
I remember being in elementary school when this Jewish girl brought the 45spd to music class and it was played. Some profound things: First, a jewish girl brought the record of Amay Grant singing this song to our music class. Secondly, no one new what it was or how to appreciate it, including myself. And third, I am a Christian today, and I remember the uneventful music class that played El shadai, when we could of had Pink Floyed - “Another Brick in the Wall”.
I can’t believe I remember that so clearly. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

contains my manuscript. It is a connect the dots manuscript on understanding the Christian faith, goal and correct perspective. It is enlightening and entertainingly filled with use of imagination married with scripture. It is filled with customs, traditions and Biblical history. I have titled this manuscript, “Love One Another”.
This blog address: http://deityquest -jeleasure.blogspot.com/ is my journal. I call it “Journaling For Growth”. I maintain it so my “Love One Another” manuscript will survive and continue to be read.
Oh my. Still the chills come after all these years! I remember when I finally discovered that this was Michael Card’s song and not Amy Grant’s. I should have read the liner notes more carefully on that LP back in ‘83.
BTW - does anyone know who the woman was singing along with Michael here?
Just watched it with my 2-year old. Apart from the first 20 sec she kept asking me who is El Shaddai (not bad that she could tell it’s a person hey?!), the rest 3 minutes she was transfixed, not a move, not a sound, I have never seen her so engaged. Hearing the song again, sang by the writer, I am blessed, and reminded, and refreshed. Thanks for always sharing some good stuff, Layguy.
Thanks for all your messages. I’m blown away thinking that I’m not the only person who loves this song!
I remember hearing a song by an Israeli duet (I think their names were Heva and Dovid) in the 60’s or early 70’s called (I Think) “La Shana” with a very similar melody to El Shaddai. Can anyone else please add to that memory of mine?
Years ago, possibly 20 also, I heard part of this song on the radio getting out of my car one night. I couldn’t get the tune out of my head. I couldn’t hear all the words as I had the measels when I was young and this left me hearing impaired. I have taken signing for a couple years and lip reading to get along in life. I don’t have your CD but I copied your words and I try to sing along. I can’t tell you how happy I am to find your site. Made my day! Thank you.
