Hi Mommyzabs,

Thanks for your feedback. Just a few comments in response.

Firstly, I don't think Paul's words were hypothetical. The Galatian church who he was writing to were being threatened by people peddling a different gospel, a gospel of works not grace.

Second, I agree with Layguy that it sounds like the Hinn gospel is a different gospel. And Layguy's summary of the gospel - ("the life, death and resurrection of Jesus") is spot on.

Third, it's not about hoping someone goes to hell. Of course not. Nor do I think Paul hoped the false teachers would go to hell. Of course we want them to repent and start preaching the true gospel. But when God's people are being threatened by a false gospel, and their salvation itself is at stake, then strong language is called for.

Anyway, like Layguy, I also know where you're coming from, and appreciate your concern not to jump too quickly to damning anyone. And of course you're right - God is the ultimate judge, not you or me.

cheers,

Andy

Hi Zabs.

I hear exactly where you are coming from. And I agree with you 100%. In retrospect, again, I shouldn't use that kind of language as God is the only judge and not me. But after researching this scum bag and the pain, hurt and misery he has caused in the "Name of Jesus," I get so fired and perhaps say things not theologically correct.

In terms of speaking another Gospel, here is where I disagree with you. I do think Hinn speaks another gospel cause he never talks about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus - he only talks about healing, receiving your miracle and sending him money.

The Gospel is all about Jesus - His Life and His sacrifice in order to bring us home to the Father. He proves what He says is true by raising from the dead. Hinn's messages are far from this reality.

Also is "prosperity gospel" another gospel? Again, while researching for this post, I came across a number of people who literally made me want to vomit. In time, I will post about this but, for now, will hold back in order to not make my blog sound so damn negative!

I appreciate you heart on these matters Zabs. It's obvious that you cherish to stand right before God in your mind and the words that come from your heart. Believe me, I do take on board what you say.

Andy, That could possibly be good back up to what you are saying, however you have to pay attention to some of the qualifiers in that sentence. It is a hypothetical and not directed at a specific instance.

Example. If Paul said You Silas are going to be damned. I can't think of him doing that, though I'm open to maybe having missed something. He said BUT EVEN IF, LET HIM BE CONDEMNED... Maybe I'm splitting hairs? Its possible. I read that as saying that there is a serious consequence to preaching a false gospel in general. Stating a matter of fact to the early church. We as people do not have the authority on who is and is not being demand. We do not view people outside of the realm of time. We have no idea what will become of someone's life before the end and we do not know of what they will and will not repent of. Benny will have to answer to God and I really don't think I would want to be him on that day.

Despite all negative thoughts I have on Benny, I haven't known him to preach a different gospel To my knowledge he believes you are saved by believing in Jesus accepting his death and resurrection for our sins and living as if he is Lord of your life. The way he takes advantage of people and lies and manipulates is wrong... and it is very possible he will be burning in hell for it. However, I'm not going to say i hope he burns in hell. Does that make sense.

Now when someone comes and says I'm am the true God, Jesus was just a prophet. Or you can't get through heaven through Jesus you also have to kill your firstborn... or ANYTHING else but Christ I call that a different Gospel.

Interested in hearing your thoughts back.

Strong words Layguy, but gotta agree with you. We shouldn't hesitate to use strong words against heresy - the Apostle Paul certainly never held back. Take for example Galatians chapter 1 where Paul has this to say:

"But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!"

So, in response to mommyzabs' comment above, perhaps it can be appropriate to say things damning someone to hell. The Apostle Paul certainly did so when someone came along with a different gospel. That's not to say God still can't bring them to repentance.

You're right on. My favorite Benny Hinn thing: they offered (for a love offering of $50) a CD where they actually captured the Holy Spirit on it.

He's a nutcase for sure.

You may like this too - we did it a while back at a church I worked for:

Go figure, you tube is not working for me at the moment.

For some reason last time I read this I missed the last paragraph. I'm completely on the same page of you on all this UNTIL the special place in Hell comment :) That is where I have to draw the line, and that is where I commented last time on his wife. I do think that Binny Hinn for a large part is a fraud. I think he has gone so far as deceiving himself! He has believe in his own abilities because he HAS seen people radically healed. IT's amazing what God will do through people whose hearts may be completely opposed to him! But Jesus did say that there will be a time that people will stand before God and say "BUT LORD! I case demons out in you name, i performed miracles, and healed people!" and God will say in return, "I never knew you". There is not doubt that miracles alone are not the mark of a saint. There are people that we know he has healed, that God blessed them despite benny.

Him and his crowd don't impress me. I encourage you that while you are listening to TD Jakes at the conference to let the guy roll off of you. I have spent so much time being angry and jaded at these people.... and it has only hurt me and had no effect on them. God will deal with these people. Our prayer ought to be, "Lord, reveal what is hidden in darkeness according to your word." And let God's vengence deal with them as it will be more than any of us could ever dish out.

I hesitate in saying thing that damn people to hell. Reason being I have no idea if they will come to repentance before they die. I don't want my own words to be sin you know? Not that I'm saying that yours are... i just think we have to be careful. Christ will judge all things.

I used to respond with a strong desire for vengance a lot. It is very much my natural personality to do so. I'm passionate about what I believe in... I'm passionate for Truth and for Justice. I remember one time a manager both my husband and I had to deal with in the music indusrtry was doing some pretty awful things. Both of us were aware of it. I was so angry (for a long time) that he got away with it- and prospered! yet fronted Christianity. It made me livid. I used to tell Jeff that this guy was downright evil. He would correct me for saying that and I hated it. But over time I realized my frustration was just hurting me. That the passion I felt needed to be pointed toward prayer. It was a hard hard thing for me... and sometimes still is- especially in light of some things I discovered about previous leaders i have had. But declaring someone as inherently evil, or damned to a special place in hell is something we should give careful pause to in speaking. We are not God and that is his place. Take comfort in the vengeance of God being greater than yours. Take comfort in the fact that God despises his name being used wrong even more than you do.

We as Christians need to be accountable before our maker, and faithful in what we do. That is enough to concentrate on! Of course when someone has questions regarding people like him especially if they are a new Christian or want to know more about God of course that is opportunity to explain what the Bible says and what we see. It's the right thing to do. But our focus is much furthered if we keep our eyes focused on what God wants us to do with our lives.
