Dick Staub

Dick Staub is an award-winning broadcaster, writer, and speaker, whose work focuses on understanding faith and culture and interpreting each to the other. He is the radio personality behind The Dick Staub Show, a nationally syndicated daily broadcast he hosted for fifteen years.

The above quote comes from the Apologetics Index blurb on Dick Staub. Being an Aussie, I don’t know Dick from Jack so I like to visit one of my favourite sites, Apologetics Index for a gist on the people I come across. However, the fact that The Resurgence interviewed Dick spiked my interest and so I had to check him out. So I collected a bunch of video’s on YouTube and created a playlist so they are all accessible from one place - and that place is here.

As my church is in a culture unique to the area it is planted in, I try to understand it as much as possible. I will listen to Dick and glean from him things pertinent to my unique Aussie Church plant. Culture should be extremely important to Christians. We have a message worth more than gold. But if we deliver that message in a way it’s not appreciated nor understood, it’s not worth anything.

Jesus said not to give “pearls to swine.” But a Church not relevant to culture increases the amount of “swine” which attacks it. What I mean by this is that if Christians share the Gospel in a way totally irrelevant to what culture values, we dramatically increase the “swine” in our world who reject what we have to say. This doesn’t mean we back off from the truth in scripture.

Time and time again, we have examples in scripture where the hearers of the Gospel thought the sharers were nuts. Stumbling blocks to logic. Worth stoning to death or crucifying upside down. So who are we to back off from faithfully declaring a message many people have died for? Having said that, we are stupid if we decide to share this message in a way our culture finds whacked out. You do the math while I check out the video’s.
