My son Caleb is sick. For the last 2 days, he is running up a fever and is, simply stated, whacked out by the bug in his system. He’s a good kid though. He doesn’t cry much - he just wants to be held by daddy - and he’s content. Love this kid!
As I was lying on the couch with him the other day, I started to pray. I asked God to take from Caleb all his sickness and place it on me - and let him be healthy again. As his dad, I am so willing to take on his illness and deal with it in a far better way as I can understand exactly whats wrong with me. In my knowledge, I would know what to do to get rid of the illness. Caleb, on the other hand, doesn’t exactly know what’s gripped him. He is just suffering the consequences of his illness.
By now I think you know where I am going with this post. As humans, we are afflicted by sin. We live in sin, suffer the consequences of sin and will die of sin. God, as our loving Father, took our sins from us and dealt with sin in a far better way than we could ever do. He placed our sins onto Jesus and dealt with it forever. Then He looks at us, His children, and sees us healthy and free from the damnation of sin.
But in His wisdom, He still allows us to go through the consequences of sin to help us prevent getting messed up in it again. I love God. I love His ways. I look at my son and can only begin to imagine what God feels when He looks at us. He loved us while we were still in sin. Imagine the feelings He has for us because of the atonement.

oh my goodness he is so cute
Children are the most amazing opportunities for us to get a glimpse of the love of God. It is so sad to see a kid sick.
Amen, bro! A very good word.
